There are a lot of graphics available on the internet, but it is hard to tell exactly what is copyrighted and what is not. Since Proboards prohibits the use of copyrighted material, it is possible that posting a copyrighted picture may get this site closed.
There is one fail-safe way to check if a picture is copyrighted.
a. Open Notepad (you can find it at start, then programs, then accessories, then notepad). b. Place the graphic on your desktop. c. Close all windows except for notepad. d. Click on the picture and while holding the mouse button down drag it onto notepad. e. You should now see a lot of code in the notepad window. Scroll down looking for copyright notices, normally like - ©F Bloggs 2003
Sometimes, you can drag a copy of the picture directly from a web-site into Notepad.
If you want to test this out try it with this graphic.
You will notice that if you right click on the picture and select properties that there is no creator information. But in the coding of the graphic there is "©Tony4in1©"

this is really imbarrassing tony but I tried doing what you said and I couldnt get the picture on my notepad. The picture I'm quering about is the one of the book on my posts. What am I doing wrong cos I'd hate to get into trouble for using it when I'm not supposed to

To start - to drag a graphic, I normally open Notepad, then go back to my browser, point at the picture, left-click and drag down to the start-bar and hover over the notepad button. This normally opens Notepad and then I just (Still with the left hand mouse button pressed) move over the Notepad window. When the Icon changes to an arrow and folder icon, I let go.
Notepad then gets smothered in weird and wonderful characters and somewhere in there MAY be the © with a name.
Sorry Crys, but on the page you got the book from (in fact, you are linked to it and so that's a no-no) it says at the top
Erm so, you will have to lose it.
However, Give me a while and I will try and sort something out for you!
I would remind you and all others that your pictures must be uploaded to a webhost and then used from there.

Thank you Tony and I've changed the picture. Ummm looks like I'm going to have to have lessons on how to do the basics on my computer to avoid this from happening again. (but I've got my fingers crossed that the picture I'm using is allowed ) The other thing is, I'm still not clear on what is meant by web hosting.
