Starting this thread for poetry we've found that we haven't written but find helpful and perhaps inspiring...
Here's a verse I love and use regualrly at funerals I do - it's by Sir Walter Raliegh (from As you came from the Holy Land) so is really old, but.. it's great:
But true love is a durable fire, In the mind ever burning, Never sick, never old, never dead, From itself never turning.
I just think that's heart melting...

Here's a poem that I always think of in my Sarah Bernhardt moods - longing for the finality and peace of death - trouble is - I'm so nosey, I want to stick around and see the reactions of others - so I tend to keep putting it off until I can work that one out.
Christina Rossetti
Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann'd: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad.
Awww! I'd love to be as noble in life as that poem is in sentiment

I hated the last two years of my upper school, coz alot of bullying went on, so I like this poem by Mike JubbCurse All Bullies For bullies who hurt with words that sting, make them afraid of harmless things
May slugs keep them from their sleep, May flies make their flesh creep; May shadows give them a fearful shock, May nits make their knees knock; May starlings stand their hair on end, May dragonflies drive them round the bend...
May butterflies betray them, May damselflies dismay them.
May Sunday make them sad, May Monday drive them mad; May Tuesday give them a terrible time, May Wednesday make them whine; May Thursday give them tears, May Friday give them fears; May Saturday cause them pain, Looking forward to Sunday again.
May frogs give them a fright, May toads turn their hair white; May chickens give them a chill, May warts destroy their will; May scabs make them scared, May ducks make them despair; May worms make them worry, May hamsters make them hurry.
May snails subdue them, May bugs bugaboo them.
For bullies who hurt with words that sting, make them afraid of harmless things.

Smiling is contagious, you catch it like the flu, When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too. I passed around the corner, and someone saw my grin, When he smiled I realised, I'd passed it onto him ;D

The Smile Starter!
Smiling is infectious, You catch it like the flu. When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner, and someone saw my grin. When he smiled I realized, I'd passed it to him.
I thought about that smile, then I realized its worth. A single smile just like mine, could travel the earth.
So, if you feel a smile begin, don't leave it undetected. Let's start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected!
