Okies , i stil get numerous requests for help with Spyware , so i am going to post instructions on what you can do to help combat this plague !
To detect and then subsequently delete Spyware u will need to download Spybot Search and Destroy. You can get it by clicking on this link security.kolla.de/ . follow the download instructions and install on your PC.
Make sure that you 'search for updates' before scanning for spyware. When you have searched for and downloaded updates , do a scan. When the scan has finished click on 'fix selected' problems.
The above program will seek out and destroy 99% of spyware on your PC , if you are still having pc problems , please post here if u think its spyware / download related.
To block the Spyware even getting to your PC , u can download another program , its called Spyware Blaster , and as the name suggests it blasts spyware before it even gets chance to get on your PC . Think of it as a Spyware Firewall.

Yet again , make sure u search for updates , install and run the program. Once you have run the program shut it down , it does not need to be constantly running , just repeat the process once a week.
Make no mistake , like rats carrying the plague , spyware can and does carry Virus's. Also be aware that firewalls will not protect you , and that includes anti virus software such as Norton's.

thanks for this posting Box.I have just had my computer cleaned out due to a virus.The cleaners installed Spybot for me.I don`t quite understand much about these things as yet,but with each visit here I learn more.I have a question for you if you don`t mind.My norton is up for renewel soon,and I was wondering if Spybot is enough security as a stand alone,or should I renew norton as well.The virus I had removed got clean past norton and I have lost a bit of faith in them.Thanks again.

Hey Albatross,
Ok , gotta be carefull here ... i'll try and explain it the best i can.
Spybot Search and destroy only removes spyware. However , if you get a virus that has come on the back of spyware it will also delete the virus as well as the spyware it is attached too.
Now , if the virus came via email , or some other way to your PC , Spybot will not remove it.
So the bottom line is , you do need both !
Yet another thing u may wish to think about is this , if you feel that you dont wish to re-subscribe / pay for Nortons renewal , u can uninstall it and get a free Anti-Virus program. Take a look in the help section under the heading ' Free Stuff'. If however u wish to stay with Nortons , u wil have to re subscribe.
Hope all that lot made some kind of sense

thanks for that info Box...yes I did make sense of all that......as silly as my questions are ,I`m learning and getting more familiar with my computer every day and thats mostly due to the help I get here...hopefully I will be able to contribute something more useful one day.

Hi it`s me again....just thought someone (other learners like me ),might want to check out a site I was advised to visit regarding spyware and malware.I certainly learnt heaps from it.If you do go there,click on the word parasite on the top left of the post and instantly you can see what bugs you got.OK. So this is where www.doxdesk.com/parasite/ .I was using spybot ,but it was a bit complicated for this old boy,so I got Ad-aware and even I understood how to use that.I now have no bugs in the system at the time of me writing this. See what happens when you help and install confidence in learners Box. I surely hope some one is helped by this. Thanks. |

Glad you are getting to grips with your spyware Albatross.
And yes u are right Ad-Aware (i think the current version is 6) is a rival to Spybot Search and Destroy.
My only comment on that is that in my experience Spybot blasts nasties that Adaware doesnt , which is why i prefer the former.
The link u gave gives a good insight for the beginner into what all this is about. Anyon reading this thread would be well advised to do what Albatross suggests and give it a 'click' !

Thanks so much box....... I actually managed to do this without having to run screaming for the hills. (although I came close to tearing my hair out. ) But thanks to your information, my computer is now virus /trojan free and Im happy...... ;D Next time something technical comes up, Im going to bail you up again and I just hope I dont drive you nutty with all my questions

Right firstly dont know if i have came to the right spot to ask this ..but i did a spybot last night and i had a file on it saying i had one called RapidBlaster ..now i thought i had sorted this problem and did a recheck to see if my pc was clean on spybot it said it was then my pc went haywire so i did a nortons check now that was fine but has soon has i did another spybot check i couldnt believe it i had like 40 problems again and most were this RapidBlaster again is there anything to worry about with this has i have looked up about it and it says it is a parasite which has really worried me .. any information or help would be grateful if you can help thanx

If you are still having strange 'happenings' on your pc , and you have checked everything else , try the following , i'm afraid it requires another download but its well worth it !
As well as spyware u can also unwittingly download things while u are surfing the net without even realising it! Things like X rated Dialers , Browser add on's etc. All of these can cause problems , including POP UP's.
To check if u have any of these nasties , down load Hijack this by clicking on this link >>

when u have downloaded that program , run it , it will give u a log (text file) giving details of any potential nasties on your pc , as well as a lot of stuff that should be there. Do not delete anything from this log file
When you have run Hijack this as previously stated it gives u a log file , save this file into My Documents or wherever you store your documents , make sure you save the file as 'HiJack' or something similiar do u can find it easier later.
You should then copy and paste that info onto Cexx's Forum board [http://boards.cexx.org/ and they will tell you if u have any problems , and if what you should do about them. If u are unsure about any of this please post a message on our forum (in the help section) and i will gladly take u through it.Blue ,i wrote these instructions in the new forum hun , it sounds like u have a malicious program on your pc that is re infecting you. This is very common. Read the above instructions and tell me if u have any probs. I am kinda all over the place at the mo , so dont expect a speedy reply but i'll do my best

this can take a few stages , or u may be lucky and cure ure problem with the first stage .
Stage 1
Download Spybot Search and destroy from the link in the first message in this thread and scan and fix and problems it finds. Give it a go , maybe even print off the instructions , if u have any probs gimme a shout back here.
